The Waters of Greenstone Trailer

You know, it’s summer in New Zealand right now. Watching this trailer for The Waters of Greenstone makes me insanely jealous, both as a fly fisherman and as an outdoors traveler. Crystal streams, majestic mountains, riverside campsites…I can’t wait to see this film about two friends from Tennessee who explore the backcountry of NZ. Thanks to Orvis News for the h/t.

I am a sucker for time lapse videos. People are shooting some fantastic footage of landscapes, cityscapes, and everything in between. The video below is from a Vimeo group called “The Good Stuff,” and showcases some gorgeous time lapse footage from around the world. Shot by Sean Stiegemeier during his travels to locations like Prague, Japan, Banff, Utah, Oregon, and California using a Canon 5d Mark II DSLR camera, the video is sure to wake up the traveler in even the staunchest homebody.

When it comes to kayaking, my experience level resides somewhere between “I know how to hold the paddle,” and “Don’t let me drown, ok?” It’s people like me who need classes like the ones offered by Lincoln Canoe and Kayak’s Outdoor School. On a sunny, cold Sunday morning in February, I was afforded the opportunity to videotape one of Lincoln’s Kayak Skills pool sessions, where students were taught basic kayaking self-rescue and escape techniques.

The students ranged in age and experience. Some were well traveled paddlers aiming to brush up on their skills. Others were novices with little or no experience at all. No matter their skill level, all the paddlers were there to have fun and learn. Take a look at the video to see what they did!
