I did this at the LL Bean store in easter Pennsylvania. We just went to the store on a shopping expedition but I guess they were having trouble filling up the trip because someone from the store approached us and asked us if we wanted to go. We had some time, so decided to go ahead.

We're both experienced kayakers, but you're right that any chance to get out on the water is a good one. I would definitely recommend these sorts of trips for beginner kayakers because there is lots of instruction and support and they are relatively short, so if someone feels uncomfortable, its not like they are stuck in a kayak for hours.
